I was just reminded that I always get asked what equipment and software I use to get the job done. Here is an overview.
For the sake of this article I am going to skip obvious things, and anything built into the OS except where it is pertaining to a specific job.
If you are like me, then you like free and low cost telecom stuff. I am an old school phone phreak at heart, (big up UPL, wooz, all tha 212 crewz & phonerangers) so I spent most of my childhood dissecting and building things to make ma bell cringe.
I am unsure if this is going to go outside the TOS for using AIM and iChat. Do so at your own risk. This is dirt simple to get working. There is really no hack or anything involved. It is just configuring things a bit.
Sorry for the ads. I hated them too. I had a friend hosting it for a bit and his apache setup is configured to insert ads into every page that is delivered. There is no way to shut it off on a per domain basis. Kind of a bummer.
Anyway, I moved it over to one of the colocated servers that I have set up so, it is now ad free.
