Guerilla CCTV Movies and Cheap Mobile Recording Equipment
So I saw this article a little while ago on digg… and I thought the film was a bit boring, but overall a very cool idea. There are tons of CCTV devices out there, and nearly all are operating on the same narrow spectrum, 2400MHz to 2483MHz. I knew this forever, but it did not click until now that I could possibly use a little portable Sony Watchman tv, CCTV Receiver and Battery pack to walk around and sniff out cameras for the specific purpose of guerilla movie making.
I am well familiar with sniffing wireless signals of all kinds. I used to have a specially modded Cobra scanner to pick up crazy goodies in NY. Cellular and cordless phones, beeper and pager signals, police and city works, street light control radio boxes, all kinds of crazy stuff…. anyway.
I have seen a ton of different cheap receivers on the market. Swann offers a wide assortment of wireless camera products. They are pretty cool, but they are kind of expensive. While poking about their site I saw a new product that I did not see a while back, the Mobile Viewer.

Awesome!
This baby has 4 channels, (the common ones) a dock(charger), 3+ hrs battery life at continuous use a “scan” mode so that you do not have to manually change channels, and also an audio/video out port so that you can hook it into a recording device.
Downside is that this thing is around $200. :( I kept looking around, it would seem as though Swann products are manufactured in China (like everything else) and there are a couple other places that “source” the same product under a different name.
Bingo.

4UCam has a series of products that are using the same source vendor. Yea, they are multicolored, but nothing that some spray paint can not fix. Hell, who cares.. maybe you like baby blue, or bust me orange. There is also a black model, but it seems harder to find. The monitor itself is $89.99. That is more like it!
Now I just have to find $89.99 to burn.. then I will hack a whip antenna into it.
