UPDATE: Interview with the funny job post company

Just for reference, I ended up getting an interview with that company. They called me and said that they did get a good laugh from my cover letter. I think allot can be said about trying to stick out from the crowd in a hiring situation and getting them to notice you…. just my two cents.

Why didn’t someone tell me my @$$ was so big! (spaceballs)

Hey? Whats the deal? 400+ people per day average poking at my site yet not a single one of you reporting that the newest version of firefox has the css div all broken!? It apparently covers the text so you cant read it! Shame shame. :{P

That is not so great for my job search guys to have busted code rolled out.

Maybe I need to just add a bug button…..?

Oh yea, and leave more comments.. noone ever comments.. :{)

Hello,

As your job posting is a bit unorthodox.. here is a little unorthodox Cover Letter.

#init 5

(1 You spend so much time on google it can be called your girlfriend…
Google, Slashdot, Digg.. the triplets..

(2 Obviously you have a sense of humor..
sorry nope, sent to /dev/null years ago ask the bofh ;)

(3 Love technology, would prefer to spend 3 hours resolving why some src doesnt compile rather than using a pre-compiled binary…
geez again?
I hate it when people do not update the man page with the new syntax…
found fix on comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc after bugging my buds in #FreeBSD

What you have to know:
(You mean, what do I know already? Would my foo be rated as Pirate or Ninja? Pirates have guns.. but ninjas own.. come on. They are all stealthy and.. oh.. yea.. ahem.. I’ll get on with it.)

…ninja..

Apache
#/usr/local/bin/apachectl restart

1.3x tree? or 2.x? lighttpd for the win!

PHP
#echo '< ?php $foo = system("echo /etc/shadow", $blah); echo $foo . "\r\n no apache as root silly!"; ? >' | php

MySQL
mysql> select * from job where hiring = “yes”

DNS
#dig whoisthisjobfor.info

FTP
#ncftpget ftp.ajob.info/../../proc/cpuinfo

MAIL Servers
#mail itsabashscript@gmail.com < /home/newjob/.offer

Kernel Configuration
#cd /usr/src/sys ; make buildkernel KERNCONF=HIREME && make installkernel KERNCONF=HIREME

Security Hardening
http://yourowned.org/submit.php?b="outputting with back ticks is bad bad&&nc -l 1337"

Performance Optimization
#echo "options DEVICE_POLLING" >> /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/NEWJOB
#echo “kern.polling.enable = 1″ >> /etc/sysctl.conf

TCP Networking
#tcpdump -i rl0 -vvv > temp.log
#grep “202.224.45.12″ temp.log
#mtr 202.224.45.12 ^C
#vi temp.log

Google and searching for answers
ssn “003″ filetype:xls
http://mgtclass.mgt.unm.edu/Bose/Excel/Appendix1/Cases/FacultyRevisted.xls (OUCH!… ;) )

If you got this far. I have 5+ years experience in NetAdmin / SysAdmin in a hosting environment and 5+ years programming large scale web applications. I just relocated from Los Angeles back to NY. Your post piqued my interest, I hope this piqued yours as well. I look forward to your call. If not, at least it maybe got a laugh or two out of your office mates. ;)

Best,

(my contact info withheld from the web)

P.S.: I always attach my resume in .pdf. Word stinks because I can not run it on my EEE unless I install Microsoft 0wn3d products. OO is great, but never gets the formatting right… Plus as an added bonus people can not monkey with it.

27.February.08 - Wednesday

The big happle

Gee, that was a short trip to LA. I am back in NY again. I miss my friends there, but there are lots of new things to see here. It is cold as usual (around 30F or below with snow and/or rain) but the weather does not bother me. I lived here so long ago that the whole place has up and changed. None of the places that I used to go to (bars, restaurants, etc..) are open anymore. This is kind of nice though if you ask me, it is like seeing the city anew again. Check my flickr for new pics, I will start adding them off and on of things going down.

Back in the USSR.. I mean Los Angeles

I am back home for a bit. I will be here for the next week or so just to hang out and take care of some things. Hit me up if you know how to reach me as this will be my last LA tour for a few months. East Coast bound! ;{)
